Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Our Commitment:
To serve, by the Gospel message, by serving Christ in the less fortunate with love, respect, justice, hope, and joy.
What We Do:
The families we serve we call “Friends.” Our greeting to them is, “How can we help you today?” The friends will tell us what their needs are. Our counselors will guide the friend and will try to offer the tools he or she needs so that they can make a systemic change. We will help with food and utilities or direct them where to go for more assistance.
Time & Training:
The conference meets twice a month.
In order to become a Vincentian, all new members are required to:
- complete four hours of Blessed Fredric Ozanam Orientation
- understand the purpose and the mission of a Vincentian
Once the new member completes the orientation, she or he will be working with the conference under the president and board member’s guidance.
Requirements:
- All members must complete the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training for Adults
- Must pass a background check
Additional Information:
Our mission, inspired by the Gospel, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization of the Galveston-Houston Diocese, leads women and men to join to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron of St. Vincent de Paul.
The Holy Family St. Vincent de Paul Conference Telephone Message Center is open 24/7 and can be reached by calling (281) 499-6246. Our serving hours for the Food Pantry are on Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (closed on holy days of obligation). Financial assistance is offered on Thursdays BY APPOINTMENT ONLY from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Be sure to leave your name and number and someone will call you back.
Volunteers work the front desk and the food pantry. There are teams of two volunteers who do home visits. They work on keeping up and stocking the pantry and maintaining the premises clean and in order. They report on scheduled days and sometimes are called on off days to help sort donations of clothing, food, and bread. All this work is done behind the scenes to be ready for food distribution on Tuesdays. We stay until the last person in line has been served.
Our area of service is primarily for the Holy Family Parish community and boundaries with zip codes 77459, 77489, 77545 and 77477. The counselors refer to board members cases to review for financial assistance if funds are available. Clothing and furniture vouchers are available based on need.
The St. Vincent de Paul Office can now accept ONLY the following donations: 1) gently used clothing and SMALL household items. Please drop off donations on Tuesdays from 10:00 am -1:00 pm when the Office is open. This will help ensure that donations are not left outdoors exposed to inclement weather.
The Society is funded through generous donations by individuals and organizations. Every dollar received is used towards helping the most vulnerable in our community.
