First Eucharist

What are the Elegibility Requirements

  • The child must already be baptized
  • Must be at least 7 yrs. old (age of reason) by September 1st of the year to be enrolled
  • Must have attended CCE classes during the prior school year at Holy Family or faith formation classes at a Catholic school, other Catholic parish, or Catholic homeschool program. If faith formation did not occur at Holy Family, a letter will need to be provided from the corresponding Catholic school, prior parish, or from the parent describing the homeschool program and attendance record.
  • Parent and child must attend mass on weekends

What do we need to do?

  •  Children will be registered and attend classes for catechesis of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist as well as their age and grade appropriate systematic catechesis (i.e. Family CCE).
Attendance in both classes is closely monitored.
  • A minimum 70% attendance is required. Special circumstances can be discussed with the coordinators.
  • At least one parent must also attend all sacrament sessions, the parent/child retreat and any other preparation, interviews, rehearsals or make-up sessions as needed.
  • Parent must sign and return Sacrament Preparation Promise (Policy) form.
  • A copy of the child’s baptismal certificate must be submitted at time of registration. If baptized at Holy Family, a separate form can be completed so the baptism can be verified. If adequate proof of baptism is not submitted by October, the child can only return to sacrament catechesis sessions until the proof of baptism is available. Special circumstances should be discussed with the coordinators.

Parental Attendance is Required

One of the most common question we receive is “Why do the parents have to attend, if the child is the one receiving the sacrament?”

  • Parents have a right and duty to be intimately involved in preparing their child for the sacrament of Penance. (NCD #126)

We are here to partner with you and support your efforts by providing a team of ministry servants who have met all the volunteer requirements in addition to taking time to work towards achieving catechist certification just so that they can have the privilege of sharing the catholic faith with your child.
