Baptism

“Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word.” (CCC 1213)

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:

Baptism for Infants and Children:


Infants and children up to the age of 7 years old are baptized according to the Rite of Baptism for Children. Parents are encouraged to have their children baptized in the first few months of life. Children who are 7 years and older and have not yet been baptized must receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) according to the Rite of Christian Initiation (adapted) for Children.
The Rite of Baptism for Children is celebrated in English on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 2:30 p.m. and in Spanish on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 2:00 p.m. To schedule the baptism of your child, please contact the Office of Christian Education (CCE) at 281-499-4612.


Requirements for Baptism at Holy Family:
For your child to be baptized:

  • You must complete the Baptism Registration Form
  • You must present a copy of the child’s official government birth certificate
  • You must have completed a Baptism Preparation Class within the last 3 years


Requirements for Being a Godparent:
A Godparent must be a Catholic who has been confirmed and already received First Eucharist and who is a practicing Catholic. If married, they must be in a valid Catholic marriage. According to Canon Law, “there is only one male sponsor or one female sponsor, or one of both.” (CCL #873). A baptized non-Catholic may serve as a Christian witness if there is only one Catholic godparent.
